Machinery and Industrial Cargo Packing

A machine does not usually break because something hit it. It breaks because it moved inside its own packing, or because it arrived after weeks at sea with corrosion on surfaces that should have been protected. Packing for industrial cargo is about restraint and preservation rather than cushioning, and it is done alongside the heavy transport that follows it.

What Is Covered truck

Preparing Machinery to Travel

Most of the work happens before anything is boxed.

  • Cleaning and preservation before packing
  • Corrosion protection on exposed surfaces
  • Draining fluids where required
  • Securing moving parts against vibration
  • Bolting and blocking into a base or case
  • Marking lifting and slinging points

The Real Failure Modes

What Damages Machinery in Transit

Industrial cargo claims tend to come from a short list, and none of them involve dropping the crate.

Movement inside the packing

A tonne of machinery that shifts even slightly destroys its own mounting points. Bolting it to the base is what prevents that, not strapping.

Corrosion at sea

Salt air and condensation attack machined surfaces over a long voyage. Preservation before closing the case is the only practical defence.

Unsupported components

Shafts, arms and loose assemblies need restraining separately, or they work against the machine's own structure for the whole journey.

Lifting it wrong at the far end

A case with no marked lifting points invites the receiver to guess. Marking them is a small job that prevents a large one.

Reassembly at the far end

Machinery that was dismantled to travel has to go back together. Recording how it came apart, and marking the parts, is what makes that a job rather than a puzzle.

Cases That Take the Weight

A case for machinery is a structural item, not a container.

  • Engineered timber cases

Heavy-duty cases and skids built to take the weight and be lifted safely when loaded.

  • Machine bolted to the base

The item is fixed to the case rather than resting in it, so nothing moves regardless of how the case is handled.

  • Handled onward by us

Loading, transport and clearance follow on from the packing rather than being someone else's job.

Why Cannata truck

The Packer Also Lifts It

Packing machinery well and then handing it to a haulier who does not know what is inside is how carefully packed cargo still arrives damaged.

Lifting in-house

The equipment to move heavy items is ours, so packing and handling are planned together.

Preservation before closing

Corrosion protection applied before the case is sealed, which is the only point at which it can be.

Transport that knows the load

Onward movement on our own low-beds and flatbeds, by people who packed it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What customers ask about machinery packing.

The risks are different. Ordinary packing protects against impact; machinery packing prevents a heavy item moving inside its own case and protects machined surfaces against corrosion on a long voyage.

Yes - cleaning, preservation of exposed surfaces, draining fluids where required, and securing moving parts. Most of the protective work happens before anything is boxed.

Normally, yes. Heavy items are bolted or blocked to the base rather than resting in the case, because even slight movement damages mounting points.

Yes. A case with no marked lifting or slinging points leaves the receiver guessing, which is a common cause of damage at the far end.

Yes, on our own low-beds and flatbeds, with lifting arranged at both ends. Packing and heavy transport are planned as one job.
